Repairs and Restoration
As much as I love making new work, there is such great satisfaction in preserving and maintaining the stained and leaded windows that already exist. The craftsmanship of old homes simply cannot be matched, and details like leaded glass are important. Time, gravity, and weather (as well as children and dogs) can do their number on old windows, so it’s a pleasure to be able to help keep them ready for the next hundred years. Each window is unique, of course, and there are as many different scenarios as windows out there. A single broken pane might need replaced, or a whole collapsing panel might need completely rebuilt. A drafty sidelight may just need some new linseed oil putty thumbed-in under the leads. Built-in cabinet doors may be rattling and missing pieces, but some simple repairs and clean-up can make them as good as new. |
Whether it’s a historic restoration or a humble repair, it’s all about maintaining the craftsmanship that made us love our old homes in the first place. Whatever your issue or concern, best to start with a phone call or email and a few images. We can schedule an in-person visit to assess the whole scope of the situation and go forward from there.
